Well guys, looks like I'm going to get the chance to build a new HT. We're about to build a new home on the other (west) side of Olathe, and we just put our house on the market. I'm leaving the theater to the new owner (unless the price isn't right), so if you know of anyone shopping for a home in eastern Olathe, here's a link to our listing:

So you're going to move to Chirpie's side of town. We'll miss you here on the East side. Please keep us up to date on your plans for a new theater. Do you have a floor plan yet?

I know you'll miss the theater, but what an opportunity to do it over again with all the knowledge you've gained since your first attempt. It is a great time to get your room structure just the way you want it without incurring lots of excessive costs.

Please keep us posted ND.

Tom

Thanks, Tom. Yep, the plan for the new house had to pass the "where am I going to put the HT?" test. This one's gonna be a big one, I hope. Might be a few years before I can save up enough $$$ to do it, though. That's why I may as well leave my stuff in this one, and hope like heck it adds to the value of the home.

What should I play during a showing / open house? Any suggestions out there? The house's amenities are so geared towards a family with little kids, I'm thinking Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks, but which one? Smile

And if he isn't already a member, I'll have to introduce the new owner to the forum!

Heh heh... welcome to the dark side!

In all seriousness, I share Tom's sentiment. Man, it'd be great to do it all again. I just shudder to think of all the goofiness I could sidestep the second time around... (starts to daydream...)

If you're playing DVDs, I'd go for Finding Nemo. The seagull rescue segue into the Darla tap scene. It takes a scene people think they know well and then clues them in on what they're really missing. ^_^

If you have Blu-ray, Kung Fu Panda's escape from prision scene has been my top demo for half a year.

Well, we're under contract, at a good price. Including the home theater was definitely a plus - lots of interest generated from it. Now we just have to ensure the appraiser understands and appreciates the added value of an installed home theater, since the purchase price is higher than recent comps. If not, then we might have to lower the purchase price and take the home theater equipment with us.

Appraisal went fine... came in at the purchase price, of course. I don't think we'll ever know if the Home Theater added any value in the appraiser's eye, though when my wife was leading him around, showing him everything, he made some comment like "all of that equipment is personal property."

If you're ever in the same situation, I would advise saying "the home theater equipment is available for $X cash," and not advertising it as "included for free."

Moving out this weekend - moving sucks! All of our stuff is being crammed into 4 storage units, while we live with my mother-in-law for the next four months.

The new house now has a basement and a first floor.

For the sake of you AND your mother-in-law I'll keep my fingers crossed there will be no construction delays. Wink

The idea of owning a house is so exciting knowing you have the opportunity to improve your decorations compared to your last house. I am sure like you, your family are also excited to do something nice with their own different places at home, like rooms and kitchens.
